Veteran-Led Bible Study Groups Growing on College Campuses

Veterans Bringing Faith to Campus

Across American college campuses, a quiet but significant movement is taking shape. Military veterans — many of them using their GI Bill benefits to pursue higher education — are founding and leading Bible study groups that combine spiritual growth with the kind of mentorship and community that is often lacking in university life.

These groups, which have sprung up at over 200 campuses nationwide, offer a unique blend of faith-based fellowship, life skills mentoring, and the discipline and structure that veterans bring from their military service.

A Different Kind of Leadership

"I've served my country, and now I want to serve my community," said one veteran who leads a weekly Bible study at a state university. "These young men and women are searching for meaning and purpose. Faith provides that foundation."

The groups have proven particularly popular with first-generation college students and those struggling with the transition to college life. The veteran leaders' life experience and maturity provide a stabilizing influence that many students find invaluable.
