Navy Commissions New Destroyer in Show of Naval Strength

America's Naval Power Grows Stronger

The United States Navy today commissioned its newest Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer in a ceremony that underscored America's commitment to maintaining the most powerful naval force in the world.

The USS Patriot (DDG-130) is equipped with the latest Aegis combat system, advanced ballistic missile defense capabilities, and cutting-edge electronic warfare systems that make it one of the most capable surface combatants ever built.

The new destroyer features significant upgrades over earlier ships in the class:
