Upcoming: New E-Verify Mandate Could Transform Workplace Immigration Enforcement

E-Verify: The Next Frontier in Immigration Enforcement

A comprehensive new bill would mandate nationwide use of the E-Verify system, requiring all American employers to electronically verify the work eligibility of every new hire. The measure represents a significant shift in immigration enforcement strategy, targeting the economic incentives that drive illegal immigration.

How E-Verify Works

E-Verify is an internet-based system that compares information from an employee's Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) to data from the Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration to confirm employment eligibility.

The system currently operates on a voluntary basis in most states, though several states have already mandated its use. A nationwide mandate would bring all 50 states under the same standard.

This article is scheduled to publish in the future to demonstrate the scheduling feature.
