A Hero Laid to Rest: Tennessee Community Rallies for Navy Veteran With No Known Family
In a powerful display of American patriotism, community members and fellow veterans gathered Tuesday morning at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery to ensure that a U.S. Navy veteran, Lonnie D. Wayman, was not laid to rest alone. Though he had been labeled “unclaimed” due to a lack of known family members, the overwhelming turnout made one thing crystal clear: in this country, our heroes are never forgotten.
Wayman’s remains had initially been listed as unclaimed after no relatives stepped forward. But when word spread, veterans organizations, local residents, and military supporters answered the call.
